Funded Project

WINGS OF THE CITY

In 2016, the Foundation awarded a grant to support a temporary sculpture walk in Commons Park, including the beloved Alas de Mexico (“Wings of Mexico”) installation by Mexican sculpturist Jorge Marín. The sculptures were installed along the edge of the park on Little Raven Street, each offering a slightly different interpretation of a winged figure.

Thanks to the sculptures’ popularity, particularly the Wings of Mexico sculpture, the Riverfront Park Community Foundation decided to fund a permanent installation of a replica sculpture. The new sculpture, dubbed Luz de Denver (“Light of Denver”) was installed in the plaza at Riverfront Park in January 2019.

The 2016 installation was funded and organized by the Riverfront Park Community Foundation, Outdoor Downtown, Denver Arts & Venues, and Denver Parks & Recreation.
